Growing Your Inventory Part 2: Your Online Thrift Store!

Congratulations! You have made it through the "Garage Sale" phase of reselling, with the faithful "Four P's" to guide you! But now that you are running out of your own things to sell, and getting the hang of the processes, you are ready to advance to the next level - becoming your own thrift store. So buckle up for the next way to gain free inventory, through the Four S's!

The Four S's of Becoming an Online Thrift Store:

1. Shout-out

Just shout out: "Calling all de-junkers!" or something to that effect. Whether it is your family, friends, acquaintances, or your social media following, tell people about what you are doing and that you need them to donate their unwanted items to you! Let them know that you take all sorts of items, and where they can bring or mail the items to you! Make sure you have some dedicated space for your donations, however, because you have no way of knowing how much stuff you are going to get.

2. Sift

Be prepared... with everybody donating their unwanted stuff to you, you are going to have to spend a little time sifting through the items. Some of it will be... well... junk! You will have to determine for yourself what is trash, and what you want to sell. Again, a dedicated space makes this process a lot easier.

3. Sort

Now that you are a growing reseller, you will need to organize your inventory space. Make the most of what you have, and know where you put things. We like to use bins to organize inventory (hence our App's name, Binin). An app like Binin helps you organize your inventory and always know where to go to find things! 4. Systemize

Whether you have a huge inventory or a small one, you need to get your system down. How do you organize and locate your items? How do you list your items? Where and how do you ship your sold inventory? You probably know the answer to some or most of these questions, but we know from personal experience that having a consistent system will make your life easier, and you and your customers happier!

You can gain a lot of knowledge and experience through selling your own things and donated things - so don't be afraid to ask around and see what happens! We recommend that you use this phase of reselling to really hone in your skills and your system, so that you can tackle your next big step: buying inventory.

Happy reselling!
